About Breaking Benjamin
Breaking Benjamin is a rock band that was founded in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1999. Lead singer and guitarist, Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel are credited with being the founders. The original lineup also consisted of guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark Klepaski.
This founding lineup released two albums before Hummel was replaced by Chad Szeliga in 2005. The band then released two more albums before entering a hiatus starting in 2010 due to Burnley’s illnesses.
The hiatus saw some shakeups in the band as members left after legal trouble caused by unauthorized compilation albums as well as 2013’s departure of Szeliga due to creative differences. Burnley was the sole member of the band until late 2014 when he announced the revival of the band and its current lineup: including bassist and backing vocalist Aaron Bruch, guitarist and backing vocalist Keith Wallen, guitarist Jasen Rauch, and drummer Shaun Foist.
The band then released two albums which debuted in the Top Three of the Billboard 200. Today, the band survived the significant lineup changes and maintained a musical style and lyrical content that aligns with Burnley who serves as primary composer and lead vocalist.
Musical Style
The band’s style has remained consistent due to Burnley’s leadership. It features “crunchy” guitars, swelling choruses, and often angst-heavy vocals wrapped around tight construction. The band is classified as hard rock or alternative rock, and shows elements of post-grunge. Many fans and critics will say that Breaking Benjamin has a sound that is almost a sub-genre on its own with a style that’s almost instantly recognizable.
